A little about myself:
I live in upstate NY in a fairly large city. I have 2 kids--3 and 1 years old. I grew up hearing my grandmothers extol the deliciousness of homegrown food. One grandmother actually called supermarket chicken "embalmed chicken" and told me time and time again that home-raised chickens tasted so much better. So, I've been enamored with the idea of growing my own food for a long time, because nothing really makes me happier than good food. BUT, my husband is still in training for his future job, and we move quite a bit. We're currently living in the city, and I was just getting discouraged that I wasn't where I wanted to be in my life. I want to have milking animals, chickens, a garden, etc, and most of that is not very possible in the city. Then one day I decided...why the hell not?! Why always be waiting for the next life stage to do what we want? I started looking into the laws of my city, and lo and behold, I could have small livestock! Score! Just one more reason my city is super cool. I needed to get a poulter's license (just $35), and I was good to go! It was quite the journey to get to the point where I am now, but it was mostly fun (and often REALLY tough and annoying), but now I'm the very happy owner of two great goats, in the city, and I have my very own milk from my very own goats that I raise and feed and milk. It's SO MUCH FUN! I'll go into more detail about what was involved in getting my goat setup in later blogs. :)
Very cool! I just read the article in the newspaper and wanted to check out your blog. I don't think I can convince my hubby to get goats...yet...but I love your story! We also live in the ward. I make goat milk soap if you ever wanna try it! -Lauren
ReplyDeleteI've really been thinking about making goat milk soap, but it looked complicated. It's awesome that you make it! Thanks for stopping by. :)
